Looking for easy crochet projects you can “WIP” up?
Well, this crochet iPad cover pattern ticks all the boxes and has practical use, which I love. I’m always looking for easy crochet patterns that I can make when my brain isn’t up for crazy stitch counts.
My kids were gifted an old iPad that they use to play Minecraft. Needless to say, it sees some serious action. So, I decided to make it a cover.
This free pattern uses easy stitches with a little something special to finish it off. If you aren’t familiar with the bobble stitch and the twisted single crochet, I’ve included links to video tutorials for them.
So, here is the pattern free crochet iPad cover pattern.

I used DK yarn and a 4mm hook for this scrap crochet pattern. I’m using up my yarn stash, and this pattern is perfect for using up scrap yarn. If you have chunkier yarn, you can adjust this pattern by leaving out the bobbles and measuring your starting chain against the iPad as you go. Then, simply use half double crochet stitches in each round until you reach the right height.
This pattern is worked in the round using a stitch marker.
IMPORTANT: Because the pattern is worked in the round, you will need to ‘pop’ the bobble stitches out with your finger. Technically, the bobble will form on the wrong side because you aren’t turning your work. It sounds complicated but you will see what I mean when you make your bobbles.
4mm hook
DK yarn
Needle for sewing in ends
Scissors
Button
ch – chain
hdc – half double crochet
bobble stitch – Yarn over and insert your hook into the stitch. Pull up a loop. Yarn over and pull through the first 2 loops on your hook. Repeat 5 times until there are 6 loops on your hook. Yarn over and pull through all 6 loops.

sc twist stitch – This stitch begins like a single crochet. Insert your hook into the stitch. Yarn over and pull up a loop. There will be two loops on your hook, like in a normal single crochet. Now, twist your hook counterclockwise, twisting the two loops. Then yarn over and pull through the loops, completing your single crochet.

Round 1: ch 23. Turn. (23)
Round 2: Starting in the second chain, hdc to the end of the chain. Place 2 hdc in the last stitch. Then, hdc in each stitch up the other side of the chain. When you get to the last stitch on that side, place 2 hdc in that stitch. Place your stitch marker here before you start round 3. (46)
Round 3-4: hdc in each stitch around (46) {2 rounds}
Round 5: [6 hdc, bobble] x 3 ; hdc in each stitch to the end of the round (46)
Round 6: 8 hdc, bobble; [6 hdc, bobble] x 2; hdc in each stitch to the end of the round (46)
Round 7: 7 hdc, bobble, [6 hdc,bobble] x 2; hdc in each stitch to the end of the round (46)
Round 8: 9 hdc, bobble, [6 hdc,bobble] x 2; hdc in each stitch to the end of the round (46)
Round 9-29: hdc in each stitch around (46) {11 rounds}
Round 30: sc twist stitch in the next 31 stitches, ch 7, skip 4 stitches and slip stitch in the 5th stitch to attach the chain, sc twist stitch in each stitch until the end of the round.
Fasten off and sew in the ends.
Put the iPad in the cover. Fold over the top so you can see where to attach your button. For me, that was 13 rounds from the top.

There you have it! A simple, quick crochet project that you can ACTUALLY use.
