Beginner Bobble Basket Free Crochet Pattern

As a crochet newbie, I would drool over fancy stitch combinations and beautiful projects. I remember feeling frustrated that I was struggling to master the basics, and the world of crochet sweaters and amigurumi (my ultimate goals) seemed far away.

That was until I learned the Bobble Stitch. This simple stitch has all the texture and squish you could want. It also elevates easy projects and makes you look and feel like a crochet pro.

I am also an avid collector of indoor plants and needed some pot covers for my newest plant babies. It seemed like the perfect time to play around with the bobble stitch, and I LOVE how these baskets turned out.

Special Stitches

Bobble Stitch (Double Knit/ Worsted/ Aran)

Yarn over and insert your hook into the stitch. Pull up a loop. Yarn over and pull through the first 2 loops on your hook. Repeat 5 times until there are 6 loops on your hook. Yarn over and pull through all 6 loops. Single crochet in the next stitch.

Bobble Stitch (Chunky)

Yarn over and insert your hook into the stitch. Pull up a loop. Yarn over and pull through the first 2 loops on your hook. Repeat 2 more times until there are 4 stitches on your hook. Yarn over and pull through all 4 stitches.

Here is a really helpful video from Heart Hook Home.

  • Scissors

Notes

This pattern comes in small, medium, and large sizes. I used a chunky yarn and a 5.5mm crochet hook, but you can use any hook and yarn you like.

This is a pattern that you can easily customize to suit your needs. Simply make the base bigger by adding rounds.

You can also make the basket as high as you want, but I recommend ending on a Bobble row for a neat finish.

If you want a sturdier basket, try a chunky yarn and a smaller hook.
