Are you looking for an easy crochet flower bag pattern? Great! Because I’ve got one for you. This little cutie was exactly what I needed. Life and work had been hectic, and I was in a crochet wasteland. Then, my kids reminded me about a birthday party they had coming up, and it was the perfect excuse for me to dust off the hooks.
My style is an eclectic/vintage mix, and this little crochet flower bag ticks all my boxes. The French knots might be my favourite element. It’s a perfect scrappy crochet project and you can mix and match whatever yarns you have available.
I can’t wait to see the creative flair you give your bags, so please tag me in your makes (@caityj.creates).
60-70g DK yarn (I used Charity)
4.5mm crochet hook
Needle for sewing in ends and making the French knots
Stitch marker
Mr – magic ring
sc – single crochet
sc inc – single crochet increase (working 2 single crochet in the same stitch)
blo – back loop only (work a stitch in the back loop only)
hdc – half double crochet
ss – slip stitch
sc inv dec – single crochet invisible decrease
This crochet flower bag pattern is worked in the round, using a stitch marker.
You can play around with different yarns. I used a slightly chunky yarn for the bag and a DK for the petals and French knots. This crochet flower bag would look super cute in velvet or blanket yarn.
The numbers in brackets are the total number of stitches in each round.
You are going to make two rounds for the body of the bag, but the rounds are slightly different. Read the whole pattern before starting.
Round 1: 10sc in a Mr (10)
Round 2: sc inc in each stitch around (20)
Round 3: [sc, sc inc] x 10 (30)
Round 4: sc in each stitch around (30)
Round 5: [2sc, sc inc] x 10 (40)
Round 6: [3sc, sc inc] x 10 (50)
Round 7: [4sc, sc inc] x 10 (60)
Round 8 – Round 10: sc in each stitch around (60) {3 rounds}
Round 11: [hdc in the blo x 45], ss in both loops of the last 15 stitches (60) {Here is a helpful blo tutorial from Hope Corner Farm Crochet}
Round 12: hdc x 45 (45)
Round 1: 10sc in a Mr (10)
Round 2: sc inc in each stitch around (20)
Round 3: [sc, sc inc] x 10 (30)
Round 4: sc in each stitch around (30)
Round 5: [2sc, sc inc] x 10 (40)
Round 6: [3sc, sc inc] x 10 (50)
Round 7: [4sc, sc inc] x 10 (60)
Round 8 – Round 9: sc in each stitch around (60) {3 rounds}
Round 10: sc x 45, ss x 15 (60)
Don’t fasten off after Round 10. You are going to move on to making the petals.
Round 1: 5 sc in a Mr (5)
Round 2: sc inc in each stitch around (10)
Round 3: [sc, sc inc] x 5 (15)
Round 4: [2sc, sc inc] x 5 (20)
Round 5 – Round 6: sc in each stitch around (20)
Round 7: [2sc, inv dec] x 5 (15)
Round 8: sc in each stitch around (15)
Round 9: [sc, inv dec] x 5 (10)
Fasten off and leave a long tail for sewing.
Sew the petals onto Side 1 of the bag. See the photos below.
Next, you are going to make French knots in the middle of the flower. Here is a helpful tutorial if you’ve never made them before.
Line up Side 1 and Side 2 so that the slip stitches line up. Join Side 1 and Side 2 by slip stitching them together. Do not place any stitches in the 15 slip stitches of each round and don’t fasten off. There are photos below that show you how to line up the sides before attaching.
When you have slip stitched the sides together, chain 100 (or more if you want a longer strap) and attach the strap to the other side of the bag with a slip stitch. Then, place a hdc in each stitch across and ss to join to the bag.
How did your crochet flower bag go? I hope you enjoyed making this bag as much as I did.
